Street feast at merchant yard: boy do they come hungry!

image

The new street feast at merchant yard has been so busy since it launched on April 12 that each Friday night flies by like a food-filled, hunger-fuelled dream. From the moment the gates open at five pm until the last trader has shut up shop at midnight, it is all hands on deck as food flies, coins drop, cans fizz and beats rumble. In fact it is so busy that we have not yet been able to leave the van to eat / drink / go to the bathroom / take any pictures of the fun being had.

Oh the irony of not eating all night.

Here are a few snaps of last Friday’s crew setting up. If you haven’t been already, come down and join us. We promise you will have some proper foodie fun.

rainbo hits the west country

last weekend, following a restful stay with our good friend in Somerset, we headed west to Devon to visit our free range meat supplier Devon Rose. It was a grey and cloudy day on the farm but we checked in with the team and managed to take a few lucky snaps.

Reluctant to get back to the city, we decided instead to head further and visit the river cottage canteen at axminster for a hearty brunch of spelt dropped scones and honey for me, and a whopping organic bacon sandwich for Ben. It was as yummy as we had hoped and we very much enjoyed living the river cottage dream.

And since we had cone so far, and were having such a successful foodie escape, we made it all the way to Buckfastleigh to visit our favourite veg heroes at Riverford. Overwhelmed by pretty seasonal produce and a lunch menu to die for, we scoffed a couple of organic burgers and a caramel chocolate slice before heading back to London.

We have now made a joint pledge to get our first Riverford veg box this week. Seasonal organic veggies from the farmer to our door: we will get cooking and report back.

riverford spicy chicken & spring greens: street feast recipe of the week

street feast

we are very honoured to be the first trader to feature our favourite seasonal recipe on the all new street feast london website. as eager disciples of the deeply inspirational and talented riverford team, whose books make some of the best bedtime reading i have encountered, it had to be their quick and yummy spicy chicken with spring greens. perfect for some instant post-trading flavour and colour. you can find it here.

oh, and there’s a pretty ace competition to be won as well, so chop chop chop.
